Afternoons R.O.C.K. in Indiana

Afternoons R.O.C.K. in Indiana providers may chose to implement one of the following three Problem Gambling prevention curriculums:

  • Improving Your Odds: A Curriculum About Winning, Losing and Staying Out of Trouble with Gambling
  • All "Bets" Are Off!
  • Kids Don't Gamble... Wanna Bet?

A Program Supervisor may chose to implement any of the above listed curricula in their Afternoons R.O.C.K. in Indiana program as long as their youth fall into the age requirements set by the curricula developers. These curriculums can be implemented at any point in the program, but must be implemented with the lessons in sequential order. Once begun, a curriculum must be offered at a minimum once per week until all lessons are completed.

Improving Your Odds: A Curriculum about Winning, Losing and Staying Out of Trouble with Gambling
  • Developed by the Minnesota Institute of Public Health (www.miph.org)
  • Age-appropriate for grades 5-8
  • Six lessons
All "Bets" Are Off!  
  • Developed by Central Michigan University, and is part of the Michigan Model for Comprehensive School Health Education
  • Age-appropriate for graders 7-8
  • Five lessons

The curriculum includes an Educator’s Guide, overhead transparencies, participant worksheets, and family worksheets.

Kids Don't Gamble... WANNA BET?
  • Developed by the North American Training Institute (www.nati.org)
  • Age-appropriate for grades 3-8
  • Lessons for grades 3-5 (ROCK grade 5) and grades 6-8

The curriculum includes an Educator's Guide, an 11-minute video or DVD – Andy's Story, a Wanna Bet? Resource Guide, overhead transparencies, plus a bibliography and resource list. Also included are a gambling fact sheet, a brief history of gambling, and a parent letter.
