IPGAP: Indiana Problem Gambling Awareness Program

March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month

This marks the 15th year of Problem Gambling Awareness Activity during the month of March. Problem Gambling Awareness Month seeks to raise awareness of problem gambling addiction and the availability of prevention, treatment and recovery resources.

The Indiana Youth Survey reported in 2017 that 46% of high school seniors participated in some form of gambling. Of those students, 1 in 4 reported a negative consequence including academic problems, feeling bad about gambling, and issues with family or friends.

Indiana awareness events for Problem Gambling Awareness Month include a two-day free workshop in Greenwood on spirituality and strength-based treatment approaches. The workshop also features a recovery panel and discussion. On March 13th, addiction and mental health centers across the state will participate in the National Disordered Gambling Screening Day.

Too often, problem gambling addiction is hidden from family and friends. We want people to “have the conversation” about problem gambling and know that gambling disorders are preventable and treatable.

Anyone concerned about your own gambling behavior, or that of a loved one, can get help by calling the statewide gambling help line, 1-800-994-8448, or chat online here.
