Indiana encourages counselors working with those that have a problem gambling to seek the International Certified Gambling Counselor designation. There are three different designations for which you can apply:
The International Co-Occurring Gambling Specialists Certificate was new in 2015. This certification seeks to increase the capacity of those working with the mental health and addictions field to better work with clients who also have issues with problem gambling. The following provides additional information regarding the application process and requirements:

The American Compulsive Gambling Counselor Certification Board, Inc. is a nonpartisan, non-political, and non-profit organization. It is organized to achieve certain objectives. Among them being to provide identity, recognition, and a basis for integrity for the profession of Compulsive Gambling Counseling by the establishment of standards for the performance and competencies desired of the practitioners in this field.

The American Academy developed the Certified Gambling Addiction Specialist (CGAS) certification to meet the growing need for credentialed counselors and other mental health care professionals working within the discipline of gambling addiction. The Certified Gambling Addiction Specialist (CGAS) credential is a clinical certification based upon experience providing addiction treatment under the direction of a qualified clinical supervisor, specialized clinical training in gambling addiction, and passing a written online examination.
